The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, for sponsoring people-oriented legislation aimed at attracting critical federal institutions to Delta State.

In a statement jointly signed by the National President of GOMEP-NG, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, and the National Secretary, Comrade Clinton Uba, the Guild described the lawmaker as one of the most hardworking and visionary legislators in the National Assembly, whose commitment to quality representation is bringing lasting socio-economic benefits to the people of Delta South.

GOMEP-NG particularly applauded Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, for sponsoring the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh, describing the initiative as a landmark intervention that will improve healthcare delivery, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across the senatorial district.

The Guild noted that the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Oleh would further expand the Federal Government’s presence in Delta South, adding that, for decades, the region had suffered inadequate federal presence, with only a few federal establishments such as Police formations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the Guild, the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, marked a significant milestone in addressing that imbalance, while the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Oleh represents another strategic achievement that will bring governance and essential public services closer to the people.

“GOMEP-NG is proud to witness these remarkable legislative accomplishments. The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleh will not only strengthen healthcare services but will also enhance economic activities, create jobs and improve the welfare of residents across Delta South and beyond,” the statement read.

The Guild further urged political office holders and members of the National Assembly representing Delta State to emulate Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas by sponsoring impactful bills and facilitating developmental projects capable of improving the living standards of their constituents.

While congratulating the Senator on what it described as another legislative milestone, GOMEP-NG reaffirmed its commitment to recognising public officials whose leadership, performance and legislative initiatives contribute meaningfully to national development and the advancement of their respective constituencies.

The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, National President, and Comrade Clinton Uba, National Secretary, of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG).
