The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State chapter, has suspended its strike and directed public primary and secondary school teachers to resume work on Thursday, July 2.

The union announced the decision after renewed discussions with the Oyo State Government over security concerns following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.

The NUT said the suspension followed a directive from its national leadership after considering government assurances to strengthen security and intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.

The union said the state government also pledged to establish a Joint Security Task Force for vulnerable schools, strengthen the Safe School Initiative, improve emergency response systems and enhance intelligence gathering.

While asking teachers to return to work, the union urged members to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities, adding that it would continue engaging the government until outstanding security concerns are addressed.
