Public servants have issued a fresh warning to the Federal Government, threatening a nationwide total strike if their demands are not addressed within the coming weeks.

The warning followed the end of a three-day strike declared by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), which ended on Sunday.

The council said the action recorded about 65 per cent compliance nationwide, with full compliance reported in Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Osun, Kaduna, Sokoto and Gombe states.

It said partial compliance was recorded in several other states as the industrial action disrupted public services across the country.

National Secretary of the JNPSNC, Olowoyo Gbenga, said the warning strike was aimed at drawing the Federal Government’s attention to the grievances of public servants and compelling urgent engagement.

Gbenga said the action had generated significant public attention and received the backing of the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by Joe Ajaero.

He urged the Federal Government to use the period of relative calm following the strike to engage the JNPSNC leadership and address the workers’ concerns.

According to him, failure to resolve the issues could lead to a total strike, with broader solidarity from other stakeholders in the labour movement.

He said preparations and sensitisation of public servants had already begun ahead of the next phase of the struggle.

The council is demanding a reduction in fuel prices, a review of salaries and allowances for public servants, and the establishment of a tripartite committee to negotiate the 2027 National Minimum Wage.

Gbenga said the demands remained firm and that millions of public servants were committed to pursuing them.

The JNPSNC urged the Federal Government to act proactively and prevent the situation from escalating into another nationwide industrial action.

The council warned that failure to respond could trigger spontaneous reactions among workers and further disrupt public services.
