The North East chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria’s youth wing, YOWICAN, has called on the Federal Government to urgently tackle the ongoing violence in the region, stressing that communities have endured prolonged suffering, displacement, and loss.

At the maiden North East YOWICAN convention in Jalingo, National Secretary Elijah Bako described the insecurity as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” urging all levels of government to act with honesty and commitment to restore peace and heal affected communities.
Bako aligned with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent warning on Nigeria’s security situation, emphasizing that global attention underscores the seriousness of the crisis. He warned that those outside the region cannot dictate the realities faced daily by local residents.
“While some may hold contrary opinions, we who live here cannot mortgage our faith, voice, or conscience for temporary gain or political convenience,” Bako said, urging Christian leaders and communities not to remain silent, as silence risks weakening the next generation’s resolve.
YOWICAN reaffirmed its commitment to speaking out against all forms of killings and urged decisive government action to rebuild shattered communities and restore peace in the North East.
