ABUJA – The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended the Nigerian security agencies for what it described as a successful intelligence-led operation that resulted in the rescue of 40 abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State after more than 56 days in captivity.
The Guild also applauded the security operatives for neutralising a notorious terrorist leader during separate counter terrorism operations, describing the achievements as a demonstration of improved operational capacity in the country’s fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
In a joint statement issued in Abuja, by the Nat’I GOMEP-NG President, Comr Akpovoke Otiti and it’s Nat’l Secretary Clinton Uba said the successful rescue of the victims without the payment of ransom underscored the effectiveness of intelligence gathering, inter agency collaboration and strategic planning by the nation’s security institutions.
The media body also praised the Federal Government for providing the policy direction and strategic support that facilitated the operations, noting that the development would further strengthen public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
According to the Guild, the latest successes reflect the commitment of the security agencies to protecting lives and property despite the prevailing security challenges in parts of the country.
GOMEP-NG urged the security agencies not to relent in sustaining the ongoing offensive against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, while calling for continued investment in intelligence, surveillance technology and personnel welfare to enhance national security.
The Guild further appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing criminal activities and improving public safety.
It also congratulated the rescued pupils, teachers and their families, expressing hope that they would receive the necessary medical, psychological and social support to aid their recovery and reintegration.
