The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party Nigeria has elected Mr Peter Azubuike as its new state chairman.

Azubuike emerged on Saturday during the party’s State Congress held in Umuahia, alongside other members of the State Working Committee. Key positions were filled through a consensus arrangement adopted by delegates at the congress.

Those elected include Mr Chucks Akamadu as state secretary, Ben Otti as organising secretary, and Mr Emenike Iroegbu as publicity secretary.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Governor Alex Otti commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the congress, describing it as a sign of unity within the party.

He congratulated the newly elected executives and assured them of his administration’s support, stressing the need for cohesion within the party.

“This is the beginning of a new era. We will all work together in one direction,” the governor said, adding that the party would ensure a smooth take-off for the new leadership.

Otti also praised the immediate past Acting State Chairman, Emmanuel Otti, for his role in steering the party through a challenging period leading up to the congress, urging him to remain committed to the party’s progress.

In his acceptance speech, Azubuike pledged to unite members and strengthen the party’s structure across the state. He expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and vowed to harness the governor’s popularity to secure electoral victories in 2027.
