The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Laja Adeoye, says Lagos residents deserve better leadership and new ideas ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeoye stated this on Thursday while formally declaring his governorship ambition at Ward F5, Ejigbo, in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The former PDP governorship aspirant, aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde-backed PDP faction before he moved to APM, said residents had become tired of what he called the excuses of the ruling APC.
“The truth is that Lagos residents are tired. They have seen the ideas and style of governance since 1999, and they are yearning for something new.
“The people want fresh ideas, fresh faces, fresh leadership, and a fresh governor. That is what I represent.
“That is why I have come out to serve. I promise the good people of Lagos State that I will be a good and responsible leader,” he said.
Adeoye promised to run an accountable and people-oriented administration if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.
“I will serve with sincerity, compassion, and accountability. I will not be a detached or inaccessible governor; I will be a governor for the people at all times.
“I am confident that the people of Lagos State will vote overwhelmingly for me because they desire genuine change and leadership that truly prioritises their welfare,” he said.
The governorship hopeful expressed excitement over the turnout of PDP and APM leaders at the declaration event.
According to him, the support re
“I am not someone who came from outside to ride on the popularity of this place. This is my home. I belong here.
“I am a true son of the soil. Through my Ijebu lineage, I have roots in Ikorodu and Epe, while through my Awori heritage, Isolo is where I belong.
“From this interaction and massive support today, it is obvious that I am not a stranger here,” he said.
Adeoye described himself as a part of the community, saying residents came out enthusiastically because they identified with his ambition.
He added that the people were excited that one of their own had stepped forward to contest the governorship election.
“I can feel the energy everywhere today. The people are happy that their son is stepping forward to contest for the governorship.
“They are also excited that I have emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the APM,” he said.
He said the PDP-APM alliance became necessary following internal disputes within the PDP and efforts to weaken opposition politics nationally.
According to him, all PDP aspirants under the Gov. Makinde-backed faction would contest the 2027 elections on the APM platform.
“Both PDP and APM have become siblings. We have become a formidable platform to oppose one-party dominance and provide a credible alternative to the APC.
“As your son, I came here to announce my governorship ambition before party leaders and supporters.
“I am happy you have given me a vote of confidence, and I will not disappoint you in this collective struggle.
“We want to serve the people and make the wealth of Lagos work for indigenes and settlers alike,” he said.
The governorship candidate urged coalition leaders and members to remain united to defeat the APC in the 2027 governorship election.
Describing the task as collective, he said the election remained winnable because the alliance was rooted in grassroots politics.
“We must not see impossibility; it is very possible. 2027 is our year to win because we are grassroots politicians. There is no reason for us to fight ourselves. Let us unite and fight this battle together,” he said.
Adeoye also presented his “Atunto Eko 1.0” manifesto to party leaders at the declaration event, saying the manifesto focused on re-engineering Lagos for inclusive prosperity and people-oriented governance.
“We want to fight suffering and hunger in Lagos. Our cassava logo symbolises our determination to banish poverty.
“We are ready to serve the people with programmes and policies that will improve their lives,” he said.
Speaking, the State APM Chairman, Mrs Bunmi Adeyemo, said the party remained united without any factional crisis.
“Our party does not have factions. We are one. This governorship ambition is already a done deal.
“Whatever we are doing, let us protect our integrity and maintain good character,” Adeyemo said.
Also speaking, State Secretary of APM, Mr Kayode Kolapo, described Adeoye as the pride of the PDP-APM alliance.
Kolapo assured the governorship hopeful of the commitment of party leaders and structures toward actualising the project.
“Adeoye remains the glory of this alliance. We are assuring you of our commitment to working together to actualise this project.
“The presence of APM executives and council chairmen should assure you that the structure is behind this ambition,” he said.
In his remarks, the State PDP Chairman and PDP-APM Coalition Chairman, Dr Amos Fawole, described APM as a political home for opposition forces.
Fawole said the PDP-APM alliance remained open to further collaborations capable of producing Adeoye as governor in 2027.
“We are confident this alliance will yield positive results in 2027,” he said.
Speaking for PDP elders in Oshodi-Isolo, a chieftain, Prince Oladipo Dosunmu, described Adeoye as a courageous and great candidate.
Dosunmu urged members to intensify the mobilisation of women and youths toward the governorship project.
Also, the PDP Vice Chairman in Oshodi-Isolo, Mrs Sade Solomon, prayed for Adeoye’s success in the governorship race, expressing confidence that Adeoye would make Lagos work for ordinary residents if elected governor.
The Campaign Coordinator of Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation (LACO), Mr Ademola Alebiosu, described Adeoye as a visionary and performing leader.
Alebiosu expressed confidence that the PDP-APM alliance would yield desired political results during the 2027 elections.
He recalled that opposition parties had previously won National Assembly and Assembly seats in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the declaration attracted PDP and APM leaders, party elders, and aspirants under the alliance.
