The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, for allegedly carrying out armed robbery and defilement in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, in Aguata Local Government Area. Police said the suspect invaded a shop in the community on October 29 with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe, stealing ₦30,000.

According to police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect also used a red polo shirt as a face mask, abducted a 13-year-old girl, and took her to a nearby bush where he forcefully assaulted her. Ikenga said the Gender Unit of the State CID, with help from local security, arrested him on November 11.
Recovered items from the suspect include the single-barrel gun, the axe, and the red polo shirt used during the crime. Ikenga added that the suspect has already given a voluntary confessional statement during interrogation.
The police confirmed that Umeugokwe will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of efforts to ensure justice for the victim. Ikenga also recalled a similar case in October where a female suspect and an accomplice were arrested in an armed robbery and kidnap incident after a victim was robbed of his SUV and ₦24 million.
