The readiness of Southeast women for the 2027 general elections was reinforced on Saturday, September 26, 2026, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Southeast Zonal Woman Leader, Hon. Barr. Mrs. Chioma Joy Anyanwu, led a formidable team of women leaders to the Umuahia campaign headquarters of Senator Austin Akobundu to celebrate his appointment as Director-General of the ADC/Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council.
The delegation described Senator Akobundu’s emergence as the clearest signal that the days of the APC administration are numbered. They hailed his proven capacity, nationwide reach and political sagacity as part of the arsenal the ADC needs to defeat the ruling party at the polls and reclaim Nigeria for the masses in 2027.
They added that Akobundu’s appointment, as one of the Southeast’s finest political leaders, demonstrates Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s confidence in the region and proves that the ADC is a truly pan-Nigerian party. They said the appointment serves as extra motivation for women in the region to ensure victory in 2027.
In a rebuke of the current federal government, the delegation said Nigerians have been subjected to “man-made hardship, reckless policies and elite-driven poverty.” They declared that Atiku Abubakar is the statesman with the experience and compassion to end the suffering, restore targeted fuel subsidy for the poor, and make food, transport and living affordable again.
“Women are tired of watching their children go to bed hungry. We are mobilizing every Southeast daughter across Nigeria to send APC packing and install Atiku,” Anyanwu vowed, pledging intensive grassroots campaigns for ADC victory.
In his response, Senator Akobundu thanked the women for the visit, noting that women hold the ace in every election. He described his appointment as an act of God and commended Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him to deliver victory in the 2027 general elections. He berated the current administration for its “anti-people policies” that have “deliberately impoverished families,” and assured the women that Atiku’s first executive action will be the restoration of targeted subsidy to crash prices and provide relief to the masses.
“This is not just a campaign. This is a rescue mission. We will galvanize the agonizing masses who already feel betrayed by the APC administration to vote out suffering and vote in Atiku,” Akobundu declared, promising the women full support to deliver every ward for the ADC.
The 2027 election, he added, will be a referendum between those who created poverty and the man determined to end it.
