Twenty players have arrived at the Super Eagles’ camp in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, as Nigeria begins preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Among those already in camp are Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Moses Simon, Taiwo Awoniyi, Akor Adams, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Frank Onyeka.
The other players are Isaac James, Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Fredericks, Moses Uzor, George Ilenikhena, Arthur Okonkwo, Tolu Arokodare, Bruno Onyemaechi, Raphael Onyedika and Chibuike Nwaiwu.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali were expected to join the squad around noon.
“Camp opened today, and preparations have commenced for the qualifiers,” Efoghe said.
Nigeria will open its qualifying campaign against Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
The Super Eagles are also scheduled to play Russia in an international friendly on October 6.
Efoghe said the team would hold its first training session on Tuesday, with the opening 15 minutes available to accredited media.
He added that the players would be available for exclusive interviews with journalists on Wednesday at the team’s base in Ikot Ekpene, with the exact time to be announced later.
