UMUAHIA — Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the same seat, has inaugurated a campaign committee to drive his 2027 reelection bid.
The committee, inaugurated in Umuahia on Friday, 25th September, 2026, at the Senator Austin Akobundu Campaign Office in Umuahia, will be led by Elder Sam Njoku as Director-General. Former Commissioner Hon. Suleiman Ukandu was appointed Deputy Director-General.
Addressing the committee, Senator Akobundu said members were chosen for their integrity, wide reach, and proven electoral track record. He urged them to be innovative and dedicated to delivering a resounding victory in 2027.
Akobundu, who was recently appointed Director-General of the ADC/Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, noted that the next election would be decided by visible projects delivered. He charged the Abia Central Campaign Committee to remain flexible and committed, adding that they would also play major roles in the party’s presidential campaign.
He disclosed that the committee would be expanded to include more youths and women, and pledged full support to equip the team for success.
In his response, DG Elder Sam Njoku thanked God for Akobundu’s appointment as DG of the ADC/Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, calling it proof of the Senator’s competence and loyalty. He expressed confidence in Akobundu’s capacity to lead the Atiku campaign to a resounding victory in 2027.
Describing Akobundu as a “shiny example,” Njoku pledged to lead the party to victory, stating that “no stone will be left unturned.” He said the committee will operate an open-door policy, ensuring members and supporters can make input and be carried along in its activities. He called on stakeholders for suggestions and advice to help achieve its mission.
