As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Uzodike Aaron, the serving member representing Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Aba Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker made this declaration this Thursday during a strategic meeting with key political stakeholders in Aba, drawn from across party lines. In his address, Hon. Uzodike emphasised that his ambition is rooted in a firm commitment to people-centred representation, anchored on responsive leadership, grassroots engagement, and purposeful constituency development.

In their separate remarks, stakeholders at the gathering strongly canvassed the principle of equity, insisting that the time has come for an Aba indigene to represent the constituency at the federal level. They argued that such a move would not only correct longstanding political imbalance, but also ensure that Aba’s unique socio-economic interests are more effectively articulated and defended at the National Assembly.

The stakeholders further noted that since the return to democratic governance in 1999, Aba indigenes have largely been sidelined in the representation of the federal constituency. They observed that the only exception is Hon. Chimobi Ebisike, who completed the tenure of the late Hon. Ossy Prestige.

They listed several past representatives who are not of Aba origin, including Hon. Tony Enwereuzor (Isiala Ngwa), Hon. Nnanna Kalu (Igbere), Hon. Uzo Azubuike (Isiala Ngwa), the late Hon. Ossy Prestige (Abiriba by naturalisation), Hon. Emeka Nnamani (Enugu), and Hon. Mascot Ikweche (old Bende extraction).

The meeting, which drew significant attention within the political landscape of Aba, is seen as a clear signal of emerging consensus among stakeholders on the need to prioritise fairness, inclusivity, and local identity in the choice of representation for Aba Federal Constituency in 2027.
