As the APC primaries draw nearer, the party’s choice of who flies its ticket for Abia South will go a long way in determining its success at the polls. At this critical moment, equity, competence, capacity, and political inclusiveness must guide the decision.

For the sake of fairness, justice, and balanced representation, it is only right that Aba Federal Constituency should produce the next Senator for Abia South. Since the return of democracy in 1999, other Federal Constituencies within the district have had their opportunities at the Senate. Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency has occupied the seat for about 20 years through Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, while Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency also had its turn of 8 years through Senator Adolf Wabara. It is only Aba Federal Constituency that has remained left out in producing a Senator for Abia South.

In the interest of equity and fairness, the time has come to correct this imbalance by giving Aba the opportunity to occupy the seat.

In this regard, Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba, PhD, stands out as the best choice for the race. She is experienced, capable, competent, and thoroughly-tested in public service. Over the years, she has demonstrated courage, leadership, grassroots appeal, and unwavering commitment to the people, making her eminently qualified to represent Abia South in the Senate.

Beyond competence and experience, giving Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba the APC ticket will further advance women’s inclusion in politics and reinforce the spirit of the 35% affirmative action for women participation in governance. Her emergence will not only be a victory for Aba, but also a triumph for equity, inclusiveness, and purposeful leadership.

Indeed, Aba’s turn has come, and Blessing Nwagba is the answer.
