Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has challenged the Federal Government to explain the public spending omitted from Nigeria’s recent budgets, as flagged by the International Monetary Fund.

Atiku made the call in a statement issued this Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, describing the IMF report as evidence of institutional corruption that requires investigation.
He questioned who authorised and spent the missing two per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, insisting the omission was a constitutional, legal and moral issue rather than an accounting error.
Atiku also called on the National Assembly, EFCC, ICPC, Auditor-General and Public Accounts Committees to investigate the matter, saying every naira must be accounted for and every official found culpable should face prosecution.
