Argentina captain Lionel Messi joked that Cape Verde players “kick the crap” out of him during their World Cup Round of 16 clash before asking for his shirt and selfies after the match.
Messi made the remarks after Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde, where several opposition players stayed behind to take photos and collect his jersey.
The Argentine captain also praised his team’s improvement from set-pieces but admitted they lost control of the game after taking the lead and needed to improve their overall performance.
Argentina will now face Egypt in the quarter-finals after the Pharaohs defeated Australia on penalties, while Messi reached the milestone of scoring his 20th World Cup goal.
