Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, has stepped in to calm tensions following anti-Nigerian protests in Ghana.

Ojukwu met with Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Ablakwa, to address concerns over the safety of Nigerians living in the country. The meeting comes on the heels of viral videos showing Ghanaians protesting and accusing Nigerian nationals of contributing to rising crime rates.
In a statement shared on her social media handle, Ojukwu said the talks focused on protecting Nigerian citizens and restoring confidence in Nigeria-Ghana relations.
She quoted her Ghanaian counterpart as assuring that there is no threat of mass deportations, and that Nigerians in Ghana remain safe, with their lives, businesses, and properties fully protected.
The Nigerian government, she said, is actively working on a diplomatic resolution to the situation, as both countries seek to maintain long-standing ties despite the recent unrest.
