Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has adjourned till May 4, 2026, to deliver a ruling on the admissibility of an extra-judicial statement made by Henry Omoile, a co-defendant in the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The judge fixed the date this Friday, April 17, 2026, after legal teams debated whether an extra-judicial statement made by Henry Omoile was given voluntarily or under duress.

Defense counsel, Adeyinka Kotoye, argued that the statement should be discarded because the interrogation was not video-recorded as required by the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

Prosecuting lead, Rotimi Oyedepo countered that the statement is valid because it was taken in the presence of a lawyer and contains denials that prove the defendant was not coerced.

Emefiele faces 19 counts involving alleged gratification and abuse of office, while Omoile is charged with accepting unlawful gifts related to transactions worth billions of naira.
