Ahead of the Saturday, January 16, 2027, presidential and National Assembly elections, a former Minority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Maria Ude Nwachi, has won the ticket for the Ebonyi South Senatorial contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Abakaliki after the direct primary held in Afikpo, Nwachi expressed excitement at clinching the PDP ticket, reiterating her belief that the party would cruise to victory at the polls.
She said, “I thank all the delegates for the enormous love and support shown me at the primary election. This is just the start.
“All that I will tell you is that God has remembered us through my being in this race. As you see me here right now, I do not have much need of my own.
“All I need is to eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, the burdens on my people and beyond.
“My people of Afikpo can confirm that all my years in and out of politics have been about lifting people out of poverty and suffering.
“I never planned to contest or even return to politics, but God has now ordained it.
“That is why I am in the race. He perfected it through Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, whom God used to avail me of this noble platform, and I am eternally grateful to him.
“Odii, popularly known as Anyichuks, is running for governor of Ebonyi State in 2027 under the PDP.”
She added, “Ebonyians should support him because he has all it takes to make Ebonyi State the fastest-rising state in the federation. The well-travelled, avant-garde, pragmatic, compassionate and ultra-successful business mogul will put an end to multidimensional poverty bedevilling Ebonyi State and Ebonyians.
“Odii built over 300 modern homes and gifted them to the have-nots in Ebonyi. He has greatly impacted many lives in Ebonyi and beyond. With our collective hard work, Odii will succeed in 2027.”
Nwachi further pledged to prioritise empowerment and development if elected to the Senate, saying her previous time in the House of Assembly was devoted to public service and projects aimed at improving lives.
She also assured residents of Ebonyi South of committed representation, expressing confidence that the district would become a reference point for development if she wins the election.
