Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, mother of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Christ Embassy, has reportedly died at the age of 88.
Reports from Edo State said the octogenarian died on Friday, September 25, 2026.
It was reported that Deaconess Oyakhilome, popularly known as “Big Mummy,” died in the community of Idunwele, Ewu, in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The publication described her as the matriarch of the Oyakhilome family and a respected figure in Esanland, noting her contribution to her family, faith and community.
According to the report, she was regarded as a woman of faith who devoted her life to God, family and humanity.
The publication said her death had thrown the Ekagholo Family of Idunwele Ewu, Ewu Kingdom and the wider Esan community into mourning.
It also extended condolences to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the Oyakhilome family, the Ekagholo family and members of Christ Embassy worldwide.
However, the report of her death had not been officially confirmed as of Saturday afternoon.
A senior official of Christ Embassy contacted by News Express said he had also heard about the reported death but could not confirm it.
“I have heard the news, too, but it is not for me to confirm her death. I mean, she was aged 88,” the official said.
He added that he would make relevant contacts and expressed the expectation that an official statement would be issued if the report was confirmed.
As of the time of filing the report, there was no official statement from Pastor Chris Oyakhilome or Christ Embassy confirming the death.
