FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has disclosed that a new political strategy is in place to counter former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections. He spoke after inspecting projects in Abuja.
Wike clarified his earlier comments on the 2023 presidential election. He said the PDP G5, which he belonged to, deliberately urged South-South voters to vote for Obi in order to deny Atiku votes, insisting Atiku—not Obi—was the real threat to their political interests. He said if the South-South had voted along party lines, Atiku would have won.
He dismissed claims that the strategy manipulated the outcome in Rivers State, saying no evidence was presented at the tribunal to show the Labour Party won the state. He added that every political camp, including the G5, had a strategy, and it was not for him to reveal it.
On projects, Wike said the Kaura district roads and bridges, and the Life Camp collector road and its link to the old Keffi road, would be handed over in December.
He said Arterial Road N16 in Gwarinpa would be completed by the first week of January, while the IBB Golf Course would be ready for a November tournament after President Bola Tinubu ordered its reopening.
Wike said the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had recorded about 60 per cent performance despite delayed releases.
He deflected criticism over a loan, saying re-election seekers should justify their records, and noted that Abuja residents had backed Philip Tanimu Aduda for Senate.
