Tinubu Mourns NAF Personnel in Ondo Jet Crash, Orders Probe

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday morning.

The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos, crashed near a naval base in Igbokoda.

The President extended his condolences to the families of the 25 passengers and seven crew members involved in the accident, as well as the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force.

Tinubu described the incident as a painful moment for the Armed Forces and the nation, noting that military personnel routinely risk their lives in the service of the country.

“This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the President said.

He disclosed that the Chief of the Air Staff had briefed him on the incident and directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

According to him, the investigation is necessary to establish what led to the accident and help prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The President also commended the Nigerian Air Force for promptly activating a search and rescue operation following the crash.

He expressed appreciation to first responders and the Ondo State Government for their swift response at the crash site.

Tinubu prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and urged God to grant their families and the Nigerian Air Force the strength to bear the loss.

He further assured the Nigerian Air Force of the continued support of his administration as it carries out its constitutional responsibility of securing the nation.
