As the 2027 General Elections rapidly approach, politicians are busy plotting winning strategies to outsmart their rivals and secure victory. In the Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, the contest is tightening by the day. None of the three major gladiators vying to occupy the Green Chamber of the National Assembly – currently represented by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe is not by any means s a pushover.

While the incumbent, Hon. Onwusibe, flies the flag of the Labour Party (LP), Hon. Uzoma Ihuka – a formidable character, wealthy businessman, former Commissioner in the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), and seasoned strategist – is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) *.* Meanwhile, Chief Chikezie Ugorji, initially viewed by some as a wild-card political newcomer, is carrying the banner for the New Democratic Congress (NDC). Though all three frontrunners have distinct strategies, Ugorji, once dismissed as a political underdog, is fast becoming the candidate to watch for several compelling reasons.

Born in Agburuike Nsulu, Ugorji began his academic journey at Agburuike Community Primary School before attending Grammar School Nbawsi, graduating with the class of 1994. He later joined Gabek International School, Nbawsi, and eventually proceeded to Kiddi Secondary Commercial School in Zakpon, Rivers State, where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE).

He subsequently gained admission into Abia State University, Uturu, where he studied Chemistry/Education from 2002 to 2006. In 2009, he completed his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where he was honored with a meritorious award as an outstanding corps member.
Ugorji’s professional career began at the United Bank for Africa (UBA), followed by a stint at African Alliance Assurance Ltd. He later ventured into the cargo and logistics sector, working as an intermodal officer with the Lilypond Container Terminal ICD unit in Ijora, Lagos.
Driven by diligence, he transitioned to Uburu Maritime Ltd in Apapa, Lagos, where he rose to the enviable position of Operations Manager, serving from 2011 to 2015. By 2016, Chikezie Joseph established his own firm, Judia Freight Services Ltd., serving as its Managing Director and CEO before making his official entry into the political arena.
A notable philanthropist, Ugorji has quietly impacted numerous lives, sponsoring over 26 individuals across various levels of academic scholarships spanning primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. Beyond education, his humanitarian footprint is extensive. In November 2025, the international businessman attended the United Nations 2nd World Summit on Social Development in Doha, Qatar, participating as an Ambassador for Social Welfare under the non-governmental organization Leadership Watch.
His commitment to public welfare is also reflected in his attendance at numerous life-changing seminars on good governance. Known for his innate generosity, close friends and political allies affectionately call him “Aku Enwebe” (Wealth that benefits others) due to his open-handed nature.
Driven by a burning desire to extend developmental and welfare initiatives to every community across Isiala Ngwa North and South, he realized that these goals could be most effectively realized through robust legislative representation. This vision fueled his decision to run for the House of Representatives to represent the Constituency
Skeptics had initially written off his political ambitions. However, the massive crowds that turned out across both Isiala Ngwa North and South during the NDC primary elections, which culminated in his emergence as the party’s candidate, sent shockwaves through the constituency. His sudden rise to the center of political discourse and his ability to mobilize such a mammoth gathering earned him the reputation of a masterful strategist.
Today, Ugorji commands one of the most formidable political ɠ in the region—the IJIRIJI-NDU Movement—which boasts deep grassroots loyalty and highly organized leadership networks spanning all 20 political wards of the Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency.
”I will not focus on cosmetic empowerment like distributing motorcycles and tricycles (Kekes). Instead, I will be a lawmaker who prioritizes real job creation, foundational development, and critical infrastructure,” Ugorji told journalists in Umuahia.
“Look at the deplorable state of the General Hospital in Okpuala Ngwa over the years; healthcare is a fundamental right. Our people should not have to travel all the way to Umuahia for care, wasting valuable time and resources. Furthermore, we will empower our youths through skills acquisition and funding, transforming them into self-reliant employers of labor. When elected, I will champion transparent leadership, with accountability as my ultimate watchword.”
Chief Ugorji is happily married, and the union is blessed with three children: two beautiful daughters, Chimaka Precious and Victoria Ifeoma, and a handsome son, Jayden Chidera.
