Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem, has declared his readiness to play any position for Nigeria as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco, insisting team success matters more than personal preference.
The Nantes centre back, known for his versatility, said his role depends entirely on the coach’s tactics. “It depends on the structure of the coach. It depends on where the coach wants me to perform,” Awaziem explained. “I just go there and just try to do the job as possible as I can.”
Taking his commitment a step further, the 28-year-old said no position is off-limits. “So, if the coach wants me to be a goalkeeper, I’m ready. If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready,” he said, highlighting his selfless mindset.
Despite his openness, Awaziem admitted his natural role remains in defence. “But my preferred position right now today as I’m speaking to you, I’m a center back,” he said, as Nigeria prepare to face Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda in the group stage.
