Renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital of covering up circumstances surrounding the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi Adichie-Esege.

Adichie made the allegation in a letter published on her Facebook page, claiming the hospital’s Medical Director initially admitted that an anaesthesiologist failed to follow the required standard of care during her son’s treatment.
She also alleged that the hospital wrongly listed bacterial and fungal meningitis as the cause of death, insisting that complications from improper sedation led to the child’s death.
The author further claimed that individuals linked to the hospital discouraged her from pursuing legal action while the institution attempted to halt an ongoing coroner’s inquest into the matter.
Legal proceedings are continuing, with the inquest currently suspended pending the outcome of a judicial review application filed by the hospital.
