A former senator representing zone 3 (Southern Kaduna), Danjuma La’ah, has defected from the All Progressive Congress, APC, to the National Democratic Congress, NDC, citing dissatisfaction and less than transparent process put in place for the senatorial primaries which was conducted by the ruling APC, under the watch of Governor Sen. Uba Sani.

La’ah, who previously represented Kaduna South Senatorial District, said the arrangement and delegate selection process put in place for the APC primaries left him feeling short-changed. He argued that the process favored the governor’s preferred aspirant who’s also the incumbent senator Sunday Marshall katung in what he described as a limited and unfair competition.

Days after leaving the APC, La’ah picked the NDC governorship ticket. Political observers in Kaduna say his entry into the race is likely to encroach on and splits votes in hitherto the governor’s stronghold, particularly in Southern Kaduna where La’ah himself retains a strong grassroots support.

The APC, through Governor Uba Sani’s camp, has maintained that the party primaries followed due process and reflected the will of members.

With La’ah now in the governorship race, it is believed and expected that the contest in Kaduna State will be fiercely fought having in mind the candidate of the ADC Isa Ashiru is another tested and consummate politician with a grassroot support in zone 1,2&3 .

Though it’s a long period now before the election, the buffer provides ample amount of time for recalibration and alignments of political thoughts by these politicians. But barring any last minute change of thought, Governor Uba Sani may be sweating all day long before the votes are counted!
