Abubakar Binji, husband of the late Aishatu Umar, has recounted the ordeal that led to his wife’s death following surgery at Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano. Umar underwent surgery on September 16, 2025, to remove a kidney cyst, but later experienced severe abdominal pain.
After repeated hospital visits, a scan at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital revealed a pair of scissors had been left inside her stomach. She was rushed for emergency surgery but died during the procedure.
Abubakar criticized the hospital’s response, saying staff dismissed the incident as “God’s will” and no government official had contacted the family. He described the loss as devastating, leaving behind five children, and called for justice and stricter regulation to prevent similar medical negligence in Nigeria.
