A security expert, Ralph Nkemakolam, has raised concerns over what he described as the alleged use of National Identification Numbers (NIN) of non-party members in the ongoing registration exercise of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State.
Nkemakolam in a chat with journalists on Friday in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, alleged that the process was being manipulated in order to create the impression that the party enjoys a larger support base than it actually does in the state.
According to him, some individuals who are not members of the party may have had their NIN details used to inflate the party’s registration figures. He therefore called on relevant authorities to look into the development.
He further accused the Abia State Government of allegedly mobilising funds through Senator Darlington Nwokocha to support the registration exercise across the state.
“The Labour Party in Abia State has not realised that they do not have the numbers they claim,” Nkemakolam said. “What we are seeing is an attempt to artificially raise those numbers by allegedly purchasing the NIN details of Nigerians who are not members of the party.”
He maintained that such practices, if proven to be true, could undermine public trust in political processes and party administration.
The security expert therefore urged security agencies and relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the allegations in order to ensure transparency and accountability.
“I am calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate what is happening in Abia State. Nigerians deserve a political process that is transparent and credible,” he added.
